Jewish Temple tells an often overlooked part of Selma

The future of Temple Mishkan Israel rests in the hands of not only the temple family but in the hands of supporters that can spare funding to restore the historic temple.

The four remaining active members of Temple Mishkan Israel have a dream to ensure that the story of the Jewish legacy of Selma as well as the role of the Jewish community in the Civil Rights movement continues to be told for generations to come.

The building needs a new roof, and updated knob and tube wiring and foundation repairs all of which are original to 1899.

Upon the completion of the structure updates, the building will be ready to take the next steps to preserve the future of the Jewish legacy in Selma.

The completion also would include creating a museum to educate visitors about the role that Selma’s Jewish community had in building the city. It is something that is often overlooked when it comes to the history of our city.
