UNITED for the City kicked off their 2019 Selma Youth Missions earlier this week.
This marks the second year UNITED has put on the missions program aimed at strengthening the faith of the teens who participate as well as provide them with the opportunity to serve the city of Selma through week-long mission projects.
According to Elkdale Baptist Church Students and Education Pastor Jonathan “JB” Brown, around 45-50 students are participating in this year’s youth missions.
“We have students from all over, different churches, coming together to be united for the gospel,” said Brown.
The program has seven different ministry sites that the students get to go to including three All in Sports Outreach Basketball camps at Meadowview Christian School, Edgewood Elementary School and Sardis Community Center.
There are also three Backyard Bible Club meetings at Moody Circle at Craig Field, Sardis Community Center and Water Avenue Trailer Park.
As a community service aspect of the program, the students volunteer at different nursing homes around town and the Bosco Center at Edmundite Missions where they serve food every day at lunch.
“A lot of things happening here,” said Brown, “We’re excited to be a part of it.”
