The Selma Art Guild held their annual Summer Juried Art Exhibition on Sunday.
The juror for the event, George Taylor, said serving as the juror for the event was no easy task.
“There were many more deserving works than I had prizes to award,” said Taylor. “Just as am I always amazed by the architectural beauty of your city each time I visit, I was deeply impressed by the quality and variety of artworks entered in this show.
“In assessing these pieces, I look at many things: first, mastery of the medium and formal elements, originality, the meaning of the piece and how successfully it is conveyed,” he said. “Then, overall expression and the degree to which the artist has challenged themselves, and by extension, us, the viewers, in a particular piece. Finally, I look to see which pieces compel me to want to keep looking at them the longest. In our rapidly changing world, I think this is the only quality of all great visual art which we can expect to endure.”
