Concerned Parents of Dallas County High School (DCHS) expressed their frustrations  at last nights Dallas County Board of Education (DCBOE) meeting.

The biggest concerns that the parents at last night’s meeting had pertained to the hiring practices of Dallas County High School’s new head football coach.

The concerns were presented by Dr. Donitha Griffin, the parent of two children in the DCHS football program.

The concerns brought up by Griffin were: That both the Superintendent Hattie Shelton and DCHS Principal Stephanie Smith did not know why the recommendation for Eddie Jackson was pulled, parents requested minutes for board meetings in April and May and have not recieved them, in the May 20 meeting, parties in the room had no way of knowing that the recommendation had changed and that several indiscretions in the interview process led to some board members to select a different candidate.

In response to those concerns, Griffin suggested that the board “stay within the boundaries of governance  and policy making” and “revisit Shelton’s original recommendation to hire Jackson as Head Football Coach.”

DCBOE Chairman Leroy Miles responded to the concerns.

“There are a few thing I do wanna clear up with ya’ll because somewhere down the lineyou all have been mislead.”

Miles stressed that the vote to hire Jackson was not pulled, as Griffin stated, it was postponed.

“The reason it was postponed,” said Miles “Was that Jackson was presented to us as the head football coach, career teacher, girls basketball coach and athletic director. The concern was that girls basketball and football overlap, so one of them would end up lacking. So we postponed. Shelton’s recommendation at the next meeting was LeVert.”

Miles stated that Shelton told the board that James LeVert was suggested because of how well he scored as an applicant to the position.

Miles also stated that Griffins claim about not having access to the previous meeting’s minutes was incorrect, because the meeting’s minutes had not yet been approved.

“The minutes of a meeting are not approved during that meeting, they are approved in the next meeting,” said Miles.

Miles welcomed the support and involvement during the meeting.
