Three-day music fest coming to Selma

Last Tuesday at the MJ 93-90 Foundation’s announcement of the new Best Buy Teen Tech Center at Wallace Community College- Selma, Jimmie Coleman announced that a music festival was on its way to Selma.
At the time of Coleman’s announcement, few details were known about the festival, but this week, a slew of information about the festival has been released.
Empower Music Fest 2019 is slated to be a three-day spectacle featuring music, food and other activities.
Scheduled for July 4, 5 and 6 the festival will include activities for everyone.
There will be a variety of acts covering multiple genre’s including blues, country, jazz, Latin and rock.
The acts that have been announced thus far include Sean Mac Trio, Dani and Taylor Hunnicut.
The family-friendly festival will also feature food vendors, movie showings, an open mic, a battle of the bands and a car show.
The project, founded by Michael Johnson, a 10-year NFL veteran and Selma native, was developed to create a cultural event that connects audiences with world-class artists, bring communities together and showcase Selma as a major music and arts destination.
According to the festival’s website, The Empower Music Festival will be known as “the destination with a purpose,” it will be an annual music festival that will be held to commemorate the spirit of love, happiness, music, health and creation of wealth.
