Two Valley Grande residents won the seventh Annual Sav-A-Life Bass Fishing Tournament last weekend at the Selma City Marina.

Cory Ingram and Corey Cole took the first-place prize with a payout of $2,500 as their five fish weighed a combined 15.3 pounds at the tournament hosted by the Safe Harbor Women’s Clinic in Selma.

“We just had a blessed day on the water, we caught a lot of fish and everything worked out,” Ingram said.

Tournament organizer Steve Craig said 29 boats competed in the tournament and was pleased with the turnout.

“The tournament went fine,” Craig said. “We raised money for the Safe Harbor Clinic, which is what we wanted to do.”

Safe Harbor Women’s Medical Clinic is a crisis pregnancy center that offers resources and classes to women seeking help through their pregnancies. The center receives neither state nor federal funding.

Safe Harbor Women’s Clinic Executive Director Jennifer Dobbs said the bass tournament is one of the clinic’s top fundraisers.

“We just had a pregnant woman come to the clinic who had no resources,” Dobbs said. “We provided her with her free pregnancy testing and an ultrasound. The tournament helps us offer those things for free, like parenting classes, baby car seats, baby beds and diapers.”

Kevin Jones and Torrey Jones were the 2018 champions.
