The Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club will hold its annual banquet Tuesday to award 11 high school seniors attending the University of Alabama with a scholarship of $2,700 each.

Club president Ronnie Leet said the scholarships are only for a year and the club rewards students for their academic achievements and involvement in extracurricular activities. Leet did not name the students who will receive the scholarship money.

Leet said the members enjoy annually assisting local students from Dallas County and Wilcox County to attend Alabama.

“These students must meet criteria set forth by the National Alumni Association,” Leet said. “This year we are proud to issue 11 outstanding students from high schools in Dallas and Wilcox County with financial assistance.”

The guest speaker for the banquet will be Chuck Karr, Dean of Engineering. Karr has spoken at the banquet before and Leet praises his speaking skills.

“Dr. Karr is a motivating and inspiring speaker who always has words of wisdom for the scholarship recipients,” Leet said. “Dr. Karr was also the introductory speaker for Coach Nick Saban when Coach Saban’s Crimson Caravan Tour was active.”

UA Student Government Association President Harrison Adams, a former Morgan Academy student, will also address the scholarship recipients. National Alumni Assoc. President Haig Wright will also speak.

Leet said he expects over 100 people to attend.
