Morgan Academy faces Pike Liberal Arts in its first game at AISA State Softball Tournament on Thursday at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
First pitch for the Morgan Academy-Pike Liberal Arts contest is at 10 a.m. A win puts Morgan Academy against the Tuscaloosa Academy-Macon-East winner at 4 p.m. Wednesday. A loss puts the Lady Senators against the Tuscaloosa Academy-Macon-East loser at 2 p.m. Wednesday. A third game in the loser’s bracket will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Morgan Academy softball coach Cherie Grimes believes hitting will be the key for the Lady Senators (6-19).
“If we can hit, we will do well,” Grimes said. “Our defense has gotten very solid, we just need to bring our bats and stay up the entire game. I believe we will do well.”
Grimes said the Lady Senators’ won-loss record doesn’t reflect their improvement throughout the year.
“We have continuously grown together as a team,” Grimes said. “We are getting better and better each day.”
