Anne Farrior Porter

Anne Farrior Porter, age 93, of Selma passed away on April 28, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Rufus Waldro Porter.
Born August 26, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William Dickson and Jewell Espy Farrior of Hayneville, and is survived by her three children – Elizabeth Porter Rivers (Scoop), William Rufus Porter (Donna), and Margaret Porter Ward (Phillip); grandchildren Margaret Anne Rivers Schilder (Andrew), William Rufus Porter, Jr. (Della), Clyde Everett Rivers III (Courtney), John Robert Porter (Glennis), Phillip John Ward, Porter Lee Rivers (Emily), and Laura Anne Ward; and great-grandchildren William Andrew Schilder, Helen Elizabeth Porter, John Everett Schilder, Millie Kate Porter, and Anne Farrior Porter.
Known affectionately as “Mama Anne” by her family and her many friends, Mrs. Porter was a graduate of Huntingdon College. She received a degree in Education and taught in Avon Park, Florida prior to moving to Selma. She taught in the Selma City School system when she met the late Mr. Porter. A loving wife and mother, she was known for her gracious charm and hospitality. She loved her family and her biggest source of pride were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was active in the community, participating in the Trellis Garden Club, Epicurean, and the Selma Charity League. She was also an avid Auburn fan.
Funeral services will be held at Church Street United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 1, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lance Eiland officiating. Visitation will precede the services from 10-11 a.m. Graveside services will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Brown Funeral Home conducting.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Will Porter, Rett Rivers, John Porter, Phillip Ward, Porter Rivers, and grandson-in-law, Andrew Schilder.
