Morgan Academy headed to AISA State Softball Tournament

Morgan Academy is headed to the AISA State Softball Tournament.

The Senators beat Tuscaloosa Academy 5-1 in the tournament’s opening game to earn one of the tournament’s top two seeds. Morgan Academy fell to Bessemer Academy 13-2 in the Region finals.

Morgan Academy (6-19) will play in the double elimination state tournament on Wednesday at noon at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

“It felt good to win the first game,” Lady Senators coach Cheri Grimes said. “I knew they could do it. The girls played hard and got it done.”

Against Tuscaloosa Academy, Maggie Colley hit a two-run single for the Lady Senators. Tindall Albritton and Bailey Brown each had RBI singles. Madie Britt had an RBI groundout for Morgan Academy.

Ainsley Smitherman was the winning pitcher against Tuscaloosa Academy, striking out eight batters.

Sara Jones and Abigail Lane each scored runs in the Lady Senators’ loss to Bessemer Academy (31-12).
