Morgan Academy, Ellwood Christian Academy, Dallas County High School and Meadowview Christian School all earned state playoff berths.
The Eagles (3-4) travel to Brantley in a Class 1A first-round doubleheader Friday at 4 p.m. MCS entertains Marengo Academy in a AISA postseason doubleheader at noon. The Hornets (8-6) host Holtville in a Class 4A first-round doubleheader at 4 p.m.at Earl Griffin Baseball Field.
The top-ranked Senators (25-0) have a first-round bye and won’t play until April 25.
ECA first-year coach Migueal Catlin said this is the Eagles’ first-ever state baseball playoff berth. Brantley (21-6) is the second-ranked team in Class 1A.
“When I became coach, getting to the state playoffs was one of the things I wanted to established,” Catlin said. “Getting to the playoffs is a huge step in that direction.”
The Trojans (14-8) earned a home playoff game by virtue of their second-place finish in Region competition.
“Getting the second seed is important to us,” MCS coach Cale Thompson said. “It means a lot to play at home. We’re a young team and our players work hard.”
The Hornets face Holtville, who received votes in the final Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) baseball poll. Dallas County coach Mark Roleau said the Hornets will be ready for Holtville (18-9).
“We’ve played a tough schedule and faced a lot of tough teams,” Roleau said. “This is the best group of kids I’ve been around. I know what to expect from them and they know what to expect from me.”
Game 3, if necessary, will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. for ECA and Dallas County. ECA would host Brantley. Dallas County would travel to Holtville. MCS would go to Marengo Academy at 11 a.m.
