Pitcher Garrett Brech struck out six batters and allowed one hit in three innings as Meadowview Christian School beat Evangel Christian Academy 9-5 on Friday.

MCS (14-8) has already qualified for the AISA State baseball playoffs. The Trojans will host Marengo Academy next Friday at noon.

MCS coach Cale Thompson plans to use the Trojans’ last two regular-season games as a tune-up for the postseason.

“We want to make sure we’re seeing the ball at the plate and limit our mental errors,” Thompson said. “If you make three errors in the playoffs, you have a chance to get your butt whipped.”

Brech said he wanted to help MCS get focused for the playoffs.

“I felt good about my performance,” Brech said. “We just ended a two-game losing streak and be ready for the playoffs.”

MCS jumped out to a 9-0 after three innings and appeared headed for a run-rule victory. Gavin Duncan and Brech each had RBI singles. Chemer McGuire added an RBI double. Alex Colquitt had an RBI groundout. The other Trojan runs came courtesy of five wild pitches by ECA.

Zach Duke and Colquitt also pitched for the Trojans, who finished second in their Area to land a home playoff game.
