The Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee (LECC) Southern District of Alabama held their 24th annual Law Enforcement Summit Wednesday and Thursday at the Carl Morgan convention center.

The summit provided local law enforcement the opportunity to discuss problems, receive extra training and network with one another over a two-day period.

District Attorney Michael Jackson declared this year’s summit a successful one.

“It went very well,” said Jackson. “There was some great training, great networking opportunities and chances for officers to reconnect.”

This year’s conference included seminars on human trafficking and credit card skimmers, to issues common within the central Alabama area.

“The conference allows law enforcement to come together and discuss the problems we have in our communities as well as receive training that helps officers recognize new problems,” said Johnson.

Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier said that this year’s conference was successful from multiple perspectives.

“The training was provided by subject matter experts from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, FBI and the ATF [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms] ,” said Collier. “It is literally world class continuing education for our officers as well as state and local law enforcement from throughout Alabama.”

According to Collier, this year’s conference was well attended, creating a positive impact on Selma’s economy.

“I am grateful to the US Attorney for once again selecting Selma to host the conference,” said Collier.
