The Selma City Vikings have a chance to make the APDFL playoffs this season.
Despite a 2-4 record, the Vikings can finish the season with a winning campaign and postseason berth. Selma City has a chance to finish over .500 with victories in their final four games. The Vikings’ four remaining opponents have two wins each.
Selma City hosts the Steel City Raptors on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
“We’ve got a good chance to make the playoffs if we win the rest of our games,” Vikings co-owner and coach Chuck Morgan said. “If we win those games, we’ll host a first-round playoff game.”
After the Raptors’ contest, the Vikings take Easter weekend off, then travel to the Georgia Noles (April 27) and Chilton Tigers (May 11), then host the Alabama Blackhawks in their home finale on May 18 at Memorial Stadium.
“We’re taking it one game at a time, we can’t afford to look ahead,” Morgan said. “We have to take that approach.
Quarterback Victor Callaway has completed 59 of 104 passes for 644 yards and also ran for a touchdown this season. Running back Warren Wilson has 51 rushes for 238 yards and a touchdown. Justin Chappell has a team-leading 33 catches for 245 yards.
Defensively, Christopher Fowler has 39 total tackles. Kyiewajtne Ward and Jamese Leonard both have two interceptions. Terrell Marshall has shown explosiveness as a kick return specialist and is also a solid possession wide receiver.
The Vikings snapped a three-game losing skid with a 32-2 victory over the Alabama Tigers on April 6 at Memorial Stadium.
“Winning last weekend was tremendous for us, especially being at home,” Morgan said. “We had lost three games in a row.”
