The Student Government Association (SGA) at Wallace Community College – Selma recently attended a Tuscaloosa City Council meeting to learn about political processes as part of Government Day.
SGA Advisor and Selma City Council President Corey Bowie called the trip “enlightening and empowering.”
“As the leaders on campus, it’s pivotal that the SGA be a voice for the student body and their concerns,” Bowie said. “Working together for the betterment of the student body is true leadership.”
Bowie said the students received a warm welcome from the Tuscaloosa City Council and Mayor Walt Maddox and more civil engagement trips are planned for the students throughout the semester.
“WCCS is molding our students to become global leaders,” Bowie said. “I want to personally thank Mayor Maddox for sharing his words of widsom with the SGA members.”
During the meeting, Bowie had the opportunity to introduce SGA President Tayla Bonner, who addressed the council and discussed her plans for the future.
Bonner and her twin sister are up for a Fullbright Scholarship to attend the University of Alabama following their stint at WCCS.
