Morgan Academy tennis team aims for state title repeat

Morgan Academy will be taking its unbeaten record to the AISA State Tennis Tournament next week in Montgmery.
The State tournament will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
Ellie Adams, Lilly Youngblood, Maggie Youngblood. Mary Ashlyn Pearce are all defending state champions as No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 girls singles, respectively.
The tandem of Adams and Lilly Youngblood and Maggie Youngblood and Pearce are both defending state girls doubles champions at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
Ed Williams won a state title in the No. 3 boys single as did Trevor Wilson at No. 4. Williams also won a state title at No. 2 doubles with a partner who isn’t playing this year.
Hannah Lighfoot is the fifth girls singles player.
On the boys side, the pecking order is Mason Perkins at No. 1, followed by Wilson, Belal Hammad, Williams and Taylor Jones.
Perkins and Wilson are the No. 1 boys doubles team, followed by Williams and Jones at No. 2.
“It feels good to be unbeaten going into the state tournament,” Morgan Academy tennis coach Baxter Stinson said. “This is a very talented group of student-athletes. They are easy to work with and we have a lot of fun, but it’s easy to have fun when you’re winning.”
