Authorities are close to apprehending a culprit believed to be behind the recent mail thefts in Valley Grande.

Chief John Hatfield of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department said that the agency is confident the suspect will soon be apprehended.

According to Hatfield, warrants for the suspect on unrelated charges have been issued.

The Sheriff’s Department has been working with United Postal Service Investigators in order to apprehend the suspect.

Hatfield said that the citizens of Valley Grande have expressed concerns about the thefts.

A large quantity of mail was found near No Limit Church in Valley Grande, and a Walmart shopper posted a picture of stolen mail that he found in the back of his pickup truck on social media.

Hatfield stated that the culprit has been targeting things like money orders and income taxes.

“He isn’t stealing mail just to steal it,” said Hatfield.
