The fifth annual Valle Grande Mexican Grill Car Show and Caravan is scheduled for this Saturday.

Car enthusiasts will meet up at the Advance Auto Parts located at 3065 Selma Highway, in Montgomery, on Saturday morning between 8 and 9 a.m.

After everyone and their cars have arrived, the group will leave at about 9 a.m. and head down Highway 80 in one line.

At around 10 a.m. Selma Police Department will escort the caravan across the Edmund Pettus Bridge and through Selma to Lions Fair Park.

Those who don’t wish to participate in the caravan are still welcome to be a part of the car show. There will be plenty of room for enthusiasts to park their cars and motorcycles.

According to the event organizer, Sergio Sanchez, the event has grown quite a bit in the last five years.

Sanchez says around 150 vehicles participated in the caravan last year and believes more would have joined in if it hadn’t been for the weather.

Over 60 trophies for a multitude of categories will be awarded to the car show’s participants.

Sanchez’s favorite part about the yearly event is the communal experience from a shared passion for classic cars.

“It’s great to hang out with all these people with the same passion,” said Sanchez.

Sanchez says that all of the classic cars bring back a lot of memories for some of the older participants.

“It’s great to hang out with all of those guys and listen to their stories,” he said.

There is a $20 registration fee to enter the car show. The fee includes an all-you-can-eat buffet from Valle Grande Mexican Grill. All of the proceeds collected will be used to service the community.

According to Sanchez, proceeds from past car shows have been used to purchase food and warm clothes for the people of Selma’s nursing homes.
