The Fredrick D. Reese Foundation’s Second Annual March 4 Muscles took place over the weekend.
A crowd gathered at Bloch Park Saturday morning at around 9 a.m. to have fun and support a good cause.
As the marchers arrived, children passed the time by on an inflatable slide while adults kept in the shade and some even purchased raffle tickets for a chance to win a 65-inch HDTV.
The escorts from Selma Police Department arrived at around noon and the marchers lined up to get ready to go.
Before the marchers began their journey, Alan Reese, a co-founder of the F.D. Reese foundation thanked all the marchers for their support and explained to them why the event is so important.
“F.D. Reese had two sons, Alan (for whom Alan is named) and Fredrick, Jr.,” said Reese. “They both passed away from Muscular Dystrophy. That’s why it’s important for us to do this a find a way to cure this disease.”
After the words from Reese were said, the marchers, led by SPD made their way down West Dallas Avenue, turned right onto Church Street, left onto Water Avenue, left onto Broad Street and then made their way back to Bloch Park.
March 4 Muscles is a partnership between the F.D. Reese Foundation and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
All of the money collected from Saturday’s events will benefit both scholarship programs at the F.D. Reese Foundation and the MDA which works to find a cure for Muscular Dystrophy.
According to Reese Around 30 people came out to support the F.D. Reese Foundation and the MDA.
