Dallas County Homeland Security (DHS) and Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Toya Stiles has announced that the department will soon be conducting their monthly siren testing.

The emergency outdoor warning sirens will be tested this Tuesday, April 2, at 10 a.m. and will continue to test them the first Tuesday every month between 10 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.

Dallas County DHS and EMA conduct tests of the sirens monthly to ensure that they are working properly and ask that if citizens do not hear their area’s siren go off to report it immediately.

A non-functioning siren can be reported to the Dallas County DHS/EMA by calling (334) 874-2515.

Stiles asked citizens to please note that the siren in Plantersville is inoperable.

The emergency sirens are designed to be heard outdoors. Stiles reminded citizens to use a weather radio inside.

Citizens of Dallas can also keep updated by downloading the new Dallas County EMA application on their smartphones.

The app was announced in a report by Stiles at Monday evening’s Dallas County Commission meeting.

The app sends users severe weather warnings, school closings and provides contact information for Dallas County representatives.

The EMA app is available for free in the iTunes Store and on Android Marketplace.

Stiles was unable to say if the app will provide notifications about the siren testing.
