The Dallas County Commission agreed to improve the conditions of Dallas County Sportsplex baseball and softball fields at Monday evening’s meeting.

County Attorney John Kelley presented the commission with two contracts to improve the fields.

The first contract is for the rebuilding of the field to make it safe and suitable for play for the upcoming baseball and softball seasons. The project is estimated to be completed in three weeks, weather permitting, at the price of $5,000.

The second contract is for the maintenance of the field the year after completion for three quarterly payments of $5,000 totaling $15,000

The contracts were unanimously approved the commission.

“This has been an ongoing idea for a while,” said Dallas County Commissioner Larry Nickles, “We are going to have state of the art fields when this project is completed. We want to let the children know to go ahead and register. We need all the coaches we can get to come out because we expect a large input this year once these fields have been beautified. We want to give our children something to do after school to keep them off of the street so they can stay out of trouble. That’s our main objective. To have a clean, safe environment for our children.”
