“I hear people all the time say, ‘There are no jobs in Selma,’ but of course there are,” said Selma Career Center Manager Clifford Hunter. “People just have to have that skill set that employers are looking for and if they don’t then we help people gain those skills to help themselves get to the next level.”
On Thursday, March 21, The Selma Career Center will host a Community Partners Brunch in order to inform community partners about the services Selma Career Center offers.
According to Hunter, the Community Partners Brunch evolved out of a Pastors and Leaders Brunch held in January.
“We thought, what better way to engage and get people involved in what we do for the community than through pastors?” Hunter said.
This time, however, the name was changed to bring in more community partners, such as business and industry leaders, to learn about the financial aid and skill building services Selma Career Center offers.
In addition to Hunter, Economic Development Administration Director Wayne Vardaman will be at the brunch to discuss the employment opportunities that await those that enroll in the career center’s services.
“Sometimes people forget that we’re here and about the services we offer,” said Hunter. “We just want people to know that we’re here and that we can help them get the skills they need to get to the next level.”
The Selma Career Center Community Members Bruch will be at 10 a.m.
