Volunteers are still needed to help the Lee County tornado victims after deadly tornadoes left over 80 people dead this weekend, according to the Associated Press.

The First Baptist Church of Opelika has opened their sanctuary to workers, according to Sam Adams the District Governor of Rotary District 6880, who, along with other Rotary leaders, is coordinating clean-up volunteer efforts with Samaritans Purse via First Baptist Opelika.

Adams said those that wish to volunteer should first attend a safety course that lasts around an hour.

“The first course will be at noon tomorrow (Wednesday, March 6),” he said. “Then the first volunteer opportunity will follow. Courses will be offered at 7:30 a.m. and noon daily thereafter. If anyone would like to invite friends or fellow Rotarians from out of town, the church will provide lodging for all that need it. Anyone that wants to volunteer should visit www.spvolunteer.org and follow the directions.”

The volunteering efforts include packing hygiene bags and other tasks.

Adams also said that Airbnb announced 38 hosts are providing free board from March 5-25 for displaced neighbors and relief workers deployed to help.
