The Pandora Club recently held its annual ball at the Selma Country Club.
The dance alternates between a formal and a costume party every year, and the 2019’s theme was “Dancing through the Decades.”
Beth Williams was crowned Pandora 2019 and will serve as President for 2019-2020. Williams was crowned by 2018 Pandora winner Frances Turner. Williams said she’s honored and always enjoy the yearly event.
“We had so much fun,” Williams said. “The members got together and designed the country club.”
Other new officers are Vice President E.M. Moore, Secretary Arabella Sheehan and Treasurer Cathy Henry.
New members added to Pandora are Kelly Fuller, Glennis Porter, Ann Speir and Becky Taylor.
A member of the club writes a poem anonymously for the ball’s invitation every year explaining the theme.
“Every decade of life brings something new, Pandora thinks it’s important to review,” The poem read. “The years in 10’s once more that we enjoyed in years before. Your costume should express which years you chose for us to guess.”
The Pandora Club is one of the oldest social clubs in Selma, dating back to the 1950s. The club consists of over 100 members.
The club was decorated with different music from the decade. Costumes ranged from the Roaring 20’s, World War II 40’s, Rock and Roll 50’s, Hippie 60’s and Disco 70’s.
Costume winners were Vaughan and Betty Russell as Sonny and Cher, Doll Searcy as a WWII Women Army Corp (WAC) and Denson Henry as Prince.
Tammy Sims, a member of Pandora, said it was great to have everyone come together and celebrate.
“I enjoyed the fellowship preparing and decorating for our annual party,” Sims said. “We have a great group of ladies.”
