The Alzheimer’s Outreach Group (AOG), LLC and Thrift Store are teaming up to raise money.

The AOG donated a $2,000 check to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) for Dallas County Project Lifesaver on Wednesday.

AOG Director Oscar Wayne Calloway said the organization always donates money to the Dallas County project lifesaver, Alabama project lifesaver and the UAB Alzheimer Research group.

DCSO Sheriff Mike Granthum said he was pleased with the AOG’s donation, which will help purchase more bracelets and repair the drone.

“For us to get help from the community, it means a lot,” Granthum said. “The program works. We like for the community to get involved.”

DCSO Sgt. John Treherne, Dallas County Lifesaver Coordinator, said the drone can locate the elderly in 15 minutes.

The Thrift store, located at 431 Church Street, will be having its donation drive from March 4-March 16 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Proceeds will go to Alzheimer’s research and Dallas County Project Lifesaver.

The store will offer men’s and women’s clothing, dresses, suits, women formal and semiformal wear, infant and children’s clothing, glassware, Christmas items, jewelry and purses.

Allyson Hartman and her mother, Audrey Southerland, run the Thrift store. Hartman said they take donations. Hartman also said their family has been affected by Alzheimer’s.

“There’s no cure for Alzheimer’s, but the money will go toward slowing down the disease,” Hartman said.
