One of Selma’s “most dangerous burglars” was arrested on Monday night.
Sylvester Lewis Stevenson, 37, was charged with second-degree theft. He was arraigned Tuesday by Dallas County District Court Judge Bob Armstrong in the Dallas County Courthouse.
According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, Lewis is currently in the Dallas County Jail and held with no bond. Jackson said a probation hold was placed on Lewis so he can’t get out of jail. His preliminary hearing date is March at 1:30 p.m.
“We have filed motions to revoke his bond and probation on other cases,” Jackson said. “In other words, Dallas County jail will be his home until we go to trial on these new charges.
Stevenson was arrested Monday at 5 p.m. by the Selma Police Department (SPD).
Jackson said Armstrong recused himself from Stevenson’s case. The new charge on Stevenson is the theft of some generators at Tally Ho restaurant. Armstrong recused himself because his nephew owns Tally Ho.
SPD Police Chief Spencer Collier praised his officers for Stevenson’s arrest. Stevenson is a suspect on dozens of crimes in the district.
“I’m proud of the investigation work that was put into catching Lewis,” Collier said. “His actions are habitual and he obviously shows little regard or respect for people’s property,” Collier said.
