“We’re honoring all of our unsung heroic law enforcement officers: men and women who bravely protect our citizens in the city of Selma and Dallas County,” Brown Chapel Founders Day Chairperson Nancy Sewell said.  “We wanted to show appreciation to our officers, they put their lives on the line everyday.”

SPD Police Chief Spencer Collier said he appreciates the kind gesture from Brown Chapel.

“We are humbled by their show of support,” Collier said. “Brown Chapel is a historic church and we are very grateful. We look forward to the fellowship. Reducing crime in Selma will take the whole community and Brown Chapel has taken a leadership role.”

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum said getting to know county residents are among his top priorities.

“I love the people of Dallas County,” Granthum said. “Getting to know the community is huge. Their safety and well-being weighs heavily on my heart and goes into a lot of my decision making.”

The service will also honor Bishop Richard Allen, founder of AME Church as well as celebrate Brown Chapel’s rich history. Brown Chapel is the first AME Church in Alabama and admitted into the AME in 1867.

Dinner will be served after the service.
