February designated Career Tech Month

Dallas County Schools is celebrating Alabama Career and Technical Education (CTE) month in February.
Students and faculty in the 12 career and technical education programs will have special events planned for the entire month.
Dallas County Probate Judge and chairman Jimmy Nunn signed a proclamation recognizing career tech month.
Open house, job shadowing, guest and industry presentations and 10th grade tours from the county’s feeder schools.
Jerolene Williams, head of the Dallas County Career Technical Center and administrator for the county’s Career Technical Education program, said she hopes that local residents will support the event.
“We hope to have a crowd of interested community residents at each of the special activities we have planned,” Williams said. “We want them to see the level of skills students gain here and how, working with people from the business community. We’re preparing young people to be productive career professionals and community leaders.”
According to the CTE, two out of every high school students statewide participate in a career tech program. Through over 300 courses, students can earn advanced diplomas and receive college credit through the program.
In 2003, the Alabama State Department of Education announced its Business and Industry Certification (BIC) process used to certify career and tech education programs for industry compliance was awarded certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It’s one of the only state-level education agencies in America to receive this certification.
