Keith (8-10) has a chance to start 3-0 in Area 4, Class 1A, but Bears coach Clifton Reeves expects a tough contest.

“It’s a very important game for us,” Reeves said. “We understand it’s going to be hard, but it’s something we can achieve. We have to stay focused.”

Southside (4-12, 1-0 Area 6, Class 3A) plays a talented Prattville Christian that features two Division I prospects: point guard B.J. Comer and small forward Cooper Meadows.

Southside coach Leonard Jones hopes the young Panthers can keep progressing and overcome the loss of three seniors.

“Prattville Christian has four guys that started last year,” Jones said. “I want my youngers to play hard and stay focused. I believe everything else will work out. I’m just trying to get the players to understand how important it was to win their first Area game Monday night.”

Dallas County meets Sumter County (12-2, 1-0) in a Class 4A, Area 6 contest. This is the Hornets’ Area opener.
