Dallas County Sheriff-elect Mike Granthum attended to the Valley Grande City Council on Monday.

Granthum showed the city council new tasers he purchased for the Dallas County Sherriff’s Office (DCSO) and holiday overtime coming from Valley Grande’s public safety budget, which totaled $25,000.

Granthum, who officially gets sworn in on Friday at 10:45 a.m. at the Dallas County Courthouse, thanked the council. Lt. John Hatfield also attended.

“We needed tasers,” Granthum said. “When we got them, it was like kids at Christmas time for the deputies. The Valley Grande Council stepped up. Working seven days a week during the holiday made our work easier. We did not have a single incident during that time.”

Granthum also said the DCSO noticed several Dallas County residents in Valley Grande stores over the two-week holiday period.

“People from the county came to shop in Valley Grande over the holidays,” Granthum said. “I don’t know how much that means in tax dollars to Valley Grande, but all of the workers appreciated it.”

Valley Grande Mayor Matt Dobbs said the council has a solid relationship with the DCSO.

“Public safety is our top priority,” Dobbs said. “We appreciate the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.”

The next Valley Grande Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall. The meeting was moved from its original scheduled Monday, Jan. 21 because of Martin Luther King Day.
