Involvement needed for Relay for Life

The team fundraising event where team members take turns walking around a track or designated path is coming back.
One of the highest fundraising events of the year, Relay for Life, has come a long way from its humble beginnings in May 1985 when Dr. Gordon Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, raising money to help the American Cancer Society with the nation’s biggest health concern: cancer.
Friends, family and patients watched Klatt and supported him as he walked and ran more than 83.6 miles and raised $27,000 through pledges to help save lives from cancer.
The next year, 19 teams were part of the first Relay at the historical Stadium Bowl that raised $33,000.
Klatt helped shape an idea that started as one man traveling around a track and turned into a global event that has raised over $5 billion to help save lives across the world.
Last year, teams in Dallas County raised $104,665, which was considered a success by team leader Alvin Craig.
This time, you can help be part of this movement. Cancer makes an impact in everyone’s lives in some way or another.
Relay for Life is something that should be supported by everyone. Either by being a team member, team leader or a sponsor.
There are different ways to be involved with the American Cancer Society (ACS).
Think about the difference that each donation and participant can make. Klatt started on his own and the way that it has involved is incredible.
