Hornets coach Cliff Nix said the tournament always provides quality competition.

“I think it’s a good tournament,” Nix said. “We have good competition and a good rivalry in the county. We’ll have a really good tournament. All of the fans are excited about it.”

Selma High coach Ronald Lane said he hopes the Saints can use the tournament for a potential postseason run.

“This tournament and holiday schedule could be the spring board for a great finish to our season,” Lane said. “We’ve set some goals and now we’ve got to believe we can achieve them.”

Keith coach Clifton Reeves said the rivalries between the four schools make for two tough contests.

“This tournament has great competition,” Reeves said. “No game is a gimme. The intensity will be high in each game. Records can be thrown out the window. Every team will play and will give their all. This is for bragging rights.”

Southside coach Lenord Jones said he likes how the Panthers have improved each week.

“The tournament will be competitive,” Jones said. “We’re coming together at the right time. I’m seeing improvement as a team. The kids are buying in.”

Girls: The Lady Saints bring momentum into the tournament. Selma has won eight straight after a 1-6 start.

“We started out slow,” Lady Saints coach Anthony Harris said. “Our three guards have carried us: Rodericka Parker, Aaliyah Hatcher and Tashari Grimes. Our goal is to win and reach the championship game.”

The girls’ and boys’ consolation games will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively. The girls’ and boys’ title games will tipoff at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., respectively.
