Two Dallas County residents received sentences this week.

Daryl Dewayne Struggs was sentenced to seven years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Former Dallas County Animal Control officer Christopher Triplett received a sentence of 15 years suspended prison in time, with two years supervised probation and two years to serve in the department of corrections. He pled guilty to second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy with a 15-year-old female.

Struggs pled guilty to possession of two Smith & Wesson, 9mm pistols found in his possession on March 28, 2017. Selma Police Department (SPD) officers pulled over a Blue Lincoln town car, which Struggs was the passenger and driven by co-defendant Danny Jamal Tate. They found a pistol loaded with a round in the chamber and 34 rounds in the extended magazine.

Tate remains at large and has a pending federal warrant for his arrest.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the SPD investigated the case.

Triplett was arrested on July 1, 2013 for sex with a 15-year-old. He has to register as a sex offender.

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said he hopes the Triplett conviction sends a message to adults who take advantage of innocent children.

“These officers and teachers need to stop preying on kids,” Jackson said. “This type of behavior destroys these kids.”
