Alexander Broadcasting celebrated the launch of its newest radio signal, 96.3 Da Bomb FM, with a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday.
The celebration held a dual meaning as Scott and Paul Alexander celebrated 45 years to the day when Thomas Alexander, Scott’s father and Paul’s grandfather, pressed the button to take the station live.
Da Bomb, a classic hip-hop station, went live in August, rounding out the company’s already well-rounded array of musical offerings.
Alexander Broadcasting currently serves up classic country, soul and classic hits through its other three FM stations, with a coverage area that extends to Montgomery up to Alabaster and over to the Mississippi line.
“Selma’s home and will always be home,” said Paul, now President of the company. “We’re proud to have Selma and Dallas County as our home base.”
Scott Alexander ran the company for many years, but relishes being able to take on different roles now that his son is at the helm.
“I’ve been doing this for 45 years,” Scott said. “I’m not stopping. It’s a lot of work, but it’s a lot of fun.”
Scott was recently named Alabama Broadcaster of the Year by the Alabama Broadcasting Association.
“They literally shocked me,” he said with a laugh.
Aside from the radio station, Paul also runs a production company that takes the radio station on the road to do live broadcasts at college campuses and events throughout the area.
“It started out as a little hobby,” Paul said of the sound and light show. “We ended up doing over 200 shows this year.”
For his part, Paul Alexander is already looking toward the next generation of Alexander broadcasters – his two-year-old son has already been featured on the air.
