We are one month away from the state turning 200 years old.

Formed as a territory on March 3, 1817, Alabama became the nation’s 22nd state on Dec. 14, 1819.

This brought about the Alabama 200 movement that is a chance to lay the foundation for the state’s future.

The three years of celebration has invested in schools, teachers, engaged in communities and encouraged citizens and visitors to explore and learn about the state.

The mission of Alabama 200, to support, create and execute events and activities that commemorate the stories of our people, place and path to statehood.

Locally, this weekend you can visit Old Cahawba as the archaeological park site director and others share historical facts about the state’s first capital.

We encourage all of the citizens of this state to participate in the Bicentennial events that have been planned. It is a chance to celebrate the place we live in.
