The Selma Police Department (SPD) is still investigating a shooting from Thursday, Nov. 15.
SPD Chief Spencer Collier said officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of West Dallas Avenue regarding a motor vehicle accident.
Officers said the vehicle was traveling east on Dallas Avenue and left the roadway and struck a mailbox before coming to rest in the front yard of a residence. Officers discovered that the driver was unconscious and the vehicle was on fire, according to Collier.
Collier said officers extinguished the fire, and the driver was removed from the vehicle. Collier said the officers found the driver had suffered from several gunshot wounds, and that the driver had lost “a large amount of blood.”
Collier said the victim was transported to Jackson Hospital ER and is recovering.
Further investigating showed that a shooting happened at a grocery store a mile west of the accident site, according to Collier.
Collier said multiple investigators have been assigned to the case they are “confident” that an arrest will be made.
Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the SPD.
