BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) of Alabama will be hosting a Medicare meeting Tuesday, November 27 at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library at 9:30 a.m.
The purpose of the meeting is for BCBS representatives to meet with Medicare recipients to discuss changes to Medicare and assist people in signing up for coverage or changing their existing plan.
Those who plan to retain their current plan do not need to attend but are encouraged to do so if they have any questions regarding their coverage.
“It’s a great benefit for them to come into our community and explain what they have to offer,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Smedley.
According to Smedley, meetings of this type, which are required to take place in each community throughout the open enrollment season, have been taking place in Selma for many years and are generally well attended.
Premium-free Part A Medicare is available to anyone over 65 that has worked and paid Medicare taxes for 10 years or more, as well as anyone who receives or is eligible to receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board benefits or worked as a Medicare-covered government employee.
A second meeting will be held December 4. Open enrollment ends Dec. 7 for Medicare and Dec. 15 for other forms of insurance.
