For the only time in its 32-year history, the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Football Classic will be played on a Monday night.
The 2018 All-Star classic will be played on Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl. Raycom Network will televise the contest. Tickets are $10.
According to the AHSAA, the game was moved from Saturday, Dec. 15 because the Camellia Bowl is being played on that date.
No player from Dallas County is on the Alabama 40-man roster. The team must have at least a player from each of the AHSAA’s eight districts and at least one player off one of the seven classifications.
The Alabama roster is dominated by players who made their verbal commitment to play at either Alabama or Auburn.
Leading the way are quarterbacks Taulia Tagovailoa of Thompson and Pinson Valley’s Bo Nix. Tagovailoa and Nix will sign with Alabama and Auburn, respectively, next month during the early NCAA signing period.
Tagovailoa is the younger brother of Alabama starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, a Heisman Trophy candidate.
Other Crimson Tide pledges include Daphne defensive back Christian Williams, Thompson offensive lineman Amari Knight and Hoover kicker Will Reichard.
Auburn commitments include Hoover wide receiver George Pickens and Hewitt-Trussville wide receiver Ja’Varrius Johnson.
Alabama has won 22 of 31 games in the series, including an unbeaten 5-0 mark when the game is played in Montgomery. Hoover coach Josh Niblett will be the Alabama head coach.
Mississippi is led by Horn Lake linebacker/defensive end Nakobe Dean, rated by 247 Sports as the top prospect in the Magnolia state.
Alabama has two verbal commitments in the game from Mississippi: West Jones defensive lineman Byron Young and Lafayette cornerback Brandon Turnage. Hattiesburg defensive end Jaren Handy is headed to Auburn.
Mississippi won 42-7 last year at M.M. Roberts Stadium, home of Southern Miss. Clarkdale coach Henry Johnson is coaching the Mississippi All-Stars.
