Jimmy Nunn’s days as Selma’s City Attorney will be ending soon.
Nunn, also the Dallas County Probate Judge-elect, informed the City Council at the Work Session on Nov. 8 that he may not attend many more work sessions or council meetings as the year ends.
Nunn will officially succeed Dallas County Probate Judge Kim Ballard on Jan. 14. Ballard officially retires at the end of next month.
Nunn defeated Nicholas Switzer 6,309 to 4,645 to become the County’s new Probate Judge in the run-off Election on July 17. Nunn won with 57.63 percent of the vote, compared to Switzer at 42.37 percent.
“We’ve got holidays coming up and I’ve got vacation time,” Nunn said. “I’ll try to get in one more meeting.”
Council President Corey Bowie said a discussion about finding Nunn’s successor will take place in an executive session during Tuesday’s city council meeting. During the summer, Bowie said a local attorney could be paid on retainer. He didn’t name any attorneys.
Nunn has served as city attorney for three different Mayor administrations: James Perkins, George Evans and Darrio Melton. He also is a former Assistant District Attorney in Dallas County.
“I’ll certainly miss you guys,” Nunn told the city council.
