The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and its auxiliary recently collaborated to sponsor a Poker Run and Silent Auction to benefit the Selma Police Department (SPD) and the Dallas County Sherriff’s Office (DCSO).
According to Post 3016 Adjutant Rod Stone, the two groups decided to donate proceeds from the event to local law enforcement agencies because of “the shortcomings of funds.”
The organizations reached out to local businesses for contributions to be used for door prizes for everyone taking part in the event.
“The response was super,” Stone said.
The event netted $2,600 which was split evenly between the SPD and DCSO.
The SPD opted to use the funds for the purchase of body armor while the DCSO used the funds to go toward the purchase of locating bracelets and batteries for Alzheimer’s patients.
“We would like to thank the community for [their] continued support for our veterans and public servants,” Stone said
