The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the murder of a man and the location where he was murdered last weekend.
Around 11:15 p.m. Oct. 27, Christopher Powell of Dallas County was shot and killed by security guards at Marion Junction Bar and Grill, according to Dallas County Sherriff-elect Mike Granthum. He also said Powell had allegedly pulled out a gun and was attempting to shoot — when he was shot.
The next day, the club caught on fire and burned to the ground. Granthum said the club’s owner heard an explosion outside. The club owner lived next to the club. He didn’t identify the owner.
Marion Junction Volunteer Department Chief Gene Pegues said by the time they arrived, the club was already burned down.
“It wasn’t a whole lot to the building,” Pegues said. “All we did was wet it down.”
Granthum said the State Fire Department is helping with the ongoing investigation and shared his theory on what transpired.
“We’re working it as an arson,” Granthum said. “It seems very suspicious that the club burned down where the victim was shot. We’ve gathered the evidence and we’re processing it.”
