Jasper Bowie is considered one of the most versatile First Responders in Dallas County.

Bowie, The Selma Times-Journal’s first responder of the week, has several jobs, in addition to being a two term Constable of Dallas County.

Bowie helps out at Dallas County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), a volunteer Fireman at Selma-Dallas County Rescue Squad, works security at Walmart, Shiloh Baptist Church, Freedom Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church, serves papers for Darrell Steward Construction and several local attorneys and drives a limousine at Miller’s Funeral Home.  He also works closely with the Selma Police Department (SPD) and Dallas County Sherriff Office (DCSO).

Bowie, 44, said he enjoys working all of these jobs because he loves helping people.

“I wear a lot of hats,” Bowie said. “Being around different people is my favorite thing. In my work, I listen to people complain and hear them talk about their problems. You think you’re going through something, somebody else’s situation might be worse. I may have saved a life.”

Before Bowie became a Constable, he worked 16 years in the SPD. He maintains good relationships with both law enforcements.

“I’ve got a good relationship with the SPD and the DSCO,” Bowie said. “I’ve got a good relationship with businesses in Dallas County.”

Bowie, a 1994 graduate of Selma High School, said he loves it when people recognize him in public.

“I’m well known in Selma,” Bowie said. “Over the years, I have coming people up to me and thanking me. At the end of the day, my job is never done. I’m blessed.”
