Road conditions dominated the Dallas County Commission meeting on Monday at the Dallas County Courthouse.

Valerie Reubin, Roy Moore and Larry Nichols were the only Commissioners present. Probate Judge and Commission chairman Kim Ballard was ill.

Rev. Steven Smith represented the Craig Pine Glen Homeowners Association and requested the county commission fix potholes in that area.

“If we resurface the roads, it will be better for the bus drivers and people in the area,” Smith said.

Reubin told Smith the commissioners have been evaluating the area and said it would cost $90,000 to fix.

“It’s not in our budget for this year, but we’ll be looking for funds,” Reubin said.

The Commission approved County Engineer George Jones Jr.’s resurvey of Lot 6 and 7 for Blackwell Bluff Plat, which was relinquished by the city of Selma. The owners of the property wanted to take three lights and make into two traffic lights.

The only thing on the consent agenda was Dallas County employee Marcella Reed continuing her education at the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama (ACCA) in Prattville for $280.75. The commissioners approved the request.

Dallas County Human Resource Director Betty Russell wanted approval of the 2019 holiday schedule, but the commissioners agreed to have it on first read and vote at the next commission meeting in November when everyone’s present.

During the meeting’s closing remarks, Moore urged county residents to vote in the General Election on Nov. 6.

“There are people in third world countries that walk for miles to vote,” Moore said. “In Dallas County, we can’t drive short distances to get out and vote. It’s a privilege to vote.”
