The blame game – As payday approaches, the finger pointing intensifies

Thursday ended with a group or protesters coming down on Selma City Hall.
Ever since the announcement of the 68 workers being laid off starting Nov. 5, the endless blame game has continued.
The employees and the city council blame Selma Mayor Darrio Melton claiming these actions are simply retaliation, while Melton said it was the council’s oversight of debt owed in their last-minute budget that was approved last month.
No matter the real reason, the weighted problem still remains that employees are not going to be paid when they should for the work they do.
We often talk about unity in the city, but how will we ever achieve unity if the leaders in our community are not unified? This problem must be fixed, and the entire town will be watching today at the special called city council meeting.
