Dallas County held its 10^th annual Be Ready Day on Wednesday at Bloch Park.

The event, coordinated by Dallas County Emergency Management Agency Director Toya Stiles, had several local and regional companies on hand. Among the groups was Vaughan Regional Medical Center, Selma Police Department, Selma Fire Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, American Red Cross, Kid One, Drug Free Communities of Dallas County and Retired Volunteer and Senior Program.

Students from Salem Elementary School, Edgewater Elementary School, Ellwood Christian Academy and Tipton Middle School all attended.

“We invited the kids to come out and talk to them about being prepared for an emergency,” Stiles said. “They can take that information home and share it with their families.”

Salem Elementary teacher Gladys Davis said she found the information on emergencies very useful.

“It’s a good learning experience for the kids,” Davis said. “They get a lot of information to take home and share with their families.”

American Red Cross District Manager Tawanna Robbins said she saw it as an opportunity to inform kids about preparing for emergencies.

“Because we’re a disaster organization, it was important to come out and talk to people about emergencies and what to do,” Robbins said.

Stiles thanked Dominos Pizza, Papa John’s Pizza, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Selcom, Zeigler’s Collins, Communications, Dave’s Market, Food Outlet and Jeffery Baity for their help in making the event a success. She also thanked Red Cross, AEMA, ALEA, ADPH, Vaughan Regional Hospital, spire, Alabama 811, Craig VFD, SFD, Hope Academy, RSVP Evelyn Cox, Kid One, Alabama Forestry, Care Ambulance, Dallas County Sheriff Department, Selma City Crossings guards, Vera Sheppard and Ameri Corps.

Stiles was grateful for Salem Elementary, Elwood Christian Academy, Tipton Middle and Edgewood Elementary for their participation with principals and teachers.
