Dallas County Commissioner Valerie Reubin was recently elected to the Legislative Committee of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama (ACCA).
The ACCA is the statewide association that represents Alabama’s 67 county governments.
The legislative committee is composed of a chairman and a representative from each county. Reubin will represent the interests of Dallas County on the committee. She will work in concert with six steering committees to formulate the association’s legislative agenda for the 2019 regular session of the Alabama Legislature.
“It’s an honor to be on that committee,” Reubin said. “I get to meet commissioners from the other counties. It’s a thrill to be part of that.”
ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield said it’s important for counties and the legislature working together.
“Counties are a creation of the state, which means they can only do what the state authorizes them to do,” ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield said. “For this reason, counties must maintain an incredibly close working relationship with the Legislature, which is why serving on this committee is a tremendous honor and responsibility.”
Reubin said she is looking forward to speaking with the State House of Representatives at the state’s capital in Montgomery.
“We get to meet with legislative members and tell them what laws we’d like to see get passed,” Reubin said.
