The Dallas County Commission unanimously approved appropriation of the Law Library at its bi-monthly meeting on Monday at the Dallas County Courthouse.
Dallas County Attorney John Kelly presented the appropriation, which requires paying $350 a month for 18 months. The Commissioners: Valerie Reubin, Roy Moore, Curtis Williams, Larry Nickles and Probate Judge and Chairman Kim Ballard approved.
Moore said it’s important to fund the law library. The commission also discussed adding another computer terminal in the library.
“Judges don’t understand what the court costs does for the county,” Moore said. “Every time they waive a case, the law library doesn’t see the money and it costs the taxpayers.”
The Commission also approved a resolution to extend participation in the Association of County Commissions of Alabama (ACCA). The contract was extended to September 2021 that included a longevity bonus with a value of $33,000.
Dallas County Engineer George Jones presented two bids for Plant Mix Option A and Plant Mix Option B from Asphalt Contractors and the commission approved both.
Here’s the other things the commission approved Monday: approving fiscal year 2019 contracts, declaring all banks depositories, a resolution for West Dallas Water Authority and the Alabama Historical Commission Fielding Vaughan Family Cemetery.
Dallas County Extension Coordinator Callie Nelson and Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryl Smedley also spoke at the Commission meeting.
Nelson thanked the Commission for their support and presented them dinners from the Golden Ranch Restaurant.
Smedley appeared to promote Dallas County’s 200th birthday celebration, which will be held on Oct. 6 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Old Cahawba Archaeological Park.
The next Commission will be held Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. in the Dallas County Courthouse.
