A busy Saturday

October is right around the corner, and the fall events are already on the calendar.

The first Saturday of the month, Oct. 6, is jammed packed and I am excited about each and every event.

I have written about them separately already and will be glad to have an opportunity to enjoy each of them on that day.

Wannabe Rescued will start the day with their yard sale at 7 a.m. at Westwood Baptist Church located at 4085 Highway 80 West. The organization raises funds to pay for the vetting and other needs associated with the care of stray dogs.

First Morning Art Walk will follow that morning 8 a.m.

This event, where local artists open their studios to the public, takes place in historic downtown Selma every first Saturday of each month.

Residents will have a chance to run around downtown Selma as Integrity Worldwide’s raises funds for their health clinic in Meto, Kenya.

Run for Kenya will start at 9 a.m. I love to run, so I am extremely excited about this event.

Old Cahawba will be busy that day with two events an hour apart.

Their Hear the Dead Speak event will start at 10 a.m. and their Happy 200th birthday Selma will start at 11 a.m.

The park will pay homage to Dallas County as they celebrate with vendors, birthday cake and other fun activities.

During the same time as Dallas County’s birthday party, The River Center for Humanity will be serving up some cool beats for their 100 Drummers Drumming at 11 a.m.

Residents will have a chance to engage in interactive DIY drum projects. Blackbelt Benefit Group’s Food truck Saturday will also be combined with this event.

Lastly, the Central Alabama Fair will host the last day of the week-long fair on Saturday, Oct. 6. at 1 p.m at Lions Fair Park.

Aside from normal fair activities, there will be several pageants for different age groups that night starting at 2 p.m.

I love it when there’s a full weekend of things to do in the community.

It helps the city thrive and keeps the positivity flowing.
