Staying strong – Tragedy brings citizens together

The weekend attack against a police officer has brought the community together in the wake of tragedy.
Tragedy seems to do that in Selma. Where it would tear others apart, the citizens come together.
If there was ever a time for unity it is now.
While finger pointing still happens in times like this, it is important that we not let events like this tear an already fragile community apart.
It is easy to place blame on each other on why bad things happen, but we encourage everyone to stop the blame game and start working on solutions.
One solution presented by Ainka Jackson, the Executive Director for The Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth and Reconciliation talked about a program called the Streetworker Program that was formed in Rhode Island as a response to their violence problems in the state.
Maybe this is the answer we need. Former offenders can offer insight into what can fix the problems in the town.
Whatever the answer may be, any effort is better than none.
Excuses are useless and complaining is draining. It is time for action.
