To continue fighting hunger, the Selma Area Food Bank is raising money through RedBasket.org, a fee-free fundraising website sponsored by WoodmenLife.

One of the ways the Selma Area Food Bank works to fight hunger is by providing mobile pantries.

“These pantries are done in order to provide food assistance to needy families in areas that currently do not have established food assistance agencies,” said Lynn Henderon, a volunteer at the Selma Area Food Bank.

Over the last year, the Selma Area Food Bank has delivered 29 mobile pantries. One pantry costs the food bank an average of $800. Each mobile pantry is made up of nearly 15,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, aimed at helping between 200 and 250 local families. Additional funding will to keep food in stock at the food bank, while still having enough product to fill the mobile pantries.

In partnership with WoodmenLife Alabama Chapters 3 and 672, the Selma Area Food Bank hopes to raise $1,600 through RedBasket.org to purchase food for two mobile pantries. The food bank’s fundraiser is available for donations through Oct. 5.
